People’s mobility isn’t as good as you may think considering the incredible numbers of cars, trains, busses and airlines - neither in Germany. It is proved that more than 50 % of the Germans do not have any direct access to individual mobility.
We are confronted with traffic jams and traffic chaos each day, a fact which seems to say that all people are on the road everyday. Reality is different. Surveys point out that 48 % of the mobile population never leave home further than 3 km everyday. Another 34 % leave home not further than the distance of 10 km and only 16 % leave home up to the distance of 50 km.
Only 1 % of the population goes further than 50 km from home everyday. That’s why traffic jams and the overextension of traffic is due to less people than you may have assumed.
